Origami World

چکیده
We paste together patches of AdS6 to find solutions which describe two 4-branes intersecting on a 3-brane with non-zero tension. We construct explicitly brane arrays with Minkowski, de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter geometries intrinsic to the 3-brane, and describe how to generalize these solutions to the case of AdS4+n, n > 2, where n n + 2-branes intersect on a 3-brane. The Minkowski and de Sitter solutions localize gravity to the intersection, leading to 4D Newtonian gravity at large distances. We show this explicitly in the case of Minkowski origami by finding the zero-mode graviton, and computing the couplings of the bulk gravitons to the matter on the intersection. In de Sitter case, this follows from the finiteness of the bulk volume. The effective 4D Planck scale depends on the square of the fundamental 6D Planck scale, the AdS6 radius and the angles between the 4-branes and the radial AdS direction, and for the Minkowski origami it is M4 2 = 2 3 (

Mathematical Methods in Origami Design
The marriage of art and mathematics has been widespread and productive, but almost nowhere more productive than in the world of origami. In this paper I will discuss how mathematical ideas led to the development of powerful tools for origami design and will present a step-by-step illustration of the design and realization of a representational origami figure using mathematical design algorithms...
متن کاملA Theory of Origami World
The recovery of three-diniensional configurations o fa scene from its image is one of the most important stcps in coniputer vision. The Origami world is a model for understanding line drawings in terms of surfaces, and for finding their 3D ConfiRurafions. It assumes rho? surfaces themselves can be stand-alone objects, unlike the conventional rrihcdral world which assunies solid objects. We have...
متن کاملFolding the Hyperbolic Crane∗
The purest form of origami is widely considered to be: folding only, from an uncut square. This purity is, of course, a modern innovation, as historical origami included both cuts and odd-sized sheets of paper, and the 20th-century blossoming of origami in Japan and the west used multiple sheets for both composite and modular folding. That diversity of starting material continues today. Composi...

متن کاملComputing with Connections in Visual Recognition of Origami Objects
This poper summarizes our initial foray in tackling Artificial Intelligence problems using o connectionist approach. The particular task chosen was the visual recognition of objects in the Origami world OS defined by Kanade (1978). The two major questions answered were how to construct o connectionist network to represent and recognize projected line drawings of Origami objects and what advanta...
متن کاملOrigami, Folding Paper over the Web
Origami, paper folding, is a traditional Japanese art of folding paper into representation of 3-D figures. In general, it is quite difficult to learn origami from 2-D images such as diagrams and videos, because it requires inference of 3-D models from 2-D images. We are developing a system for folding origami over the Web, by designing a model of an origami folding process and by implementing a...
